Getting There: Embracing Goal Setting
I’ve always felt that goal setting was intimidating. Years ago, I was staunchly against it. SMART Goals made me want to hide under my desk. Creating vision boards and then setting goals to reach that vision (a tool that I know works well for a lot of folks) gave me anxiety. My philosophy was, “I don’t know where I’m going to end up, but I know I am going in the right direction, so why should I need an actual goal?”
Cultural Competency is Integral to Diversity and Inclusion
Identifying whether or not a group, organization, or team is diverse can be difficult. Sure, you can base your assumption on physical characteristics such as gender or race. Doing this is not wrong exactly, but we shouldn’t stop there. While diversity is important, I believe that possessing cultural competency is integral to having a truly diverse and inclusive team.

As a consultant and coach, I have worked with many organizations and individuals that are hesitant to change. When reflecting on this and reading this principle, I realize that to manage change effectively, one should focus on the path that leads you to the destination. Small steps and achievements are what make up that path.
